Joost TV
The Internet TV or Internet Television is the novel child of internet technology. The Internet TV is TV on Internet; it is the distribution of television via internet. Internet TV is also known as online TV, or Web TV, or IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), or Television on the desktop (TOD), or TV over IP (Television over Internet Protocol).
Joost, pronounced as “juiced,” is the new IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) venture of the founders of Skype and Kazaa, Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Joost is also known as Joost IPTV or simply Joost TV. Joost TV offers digital television service using the Internet Protocol.
Friis and Zennström received part of $2.6 billion cash payment when eBay acquired Skype in 2005, which was enough to cover the development and marketing cost of their Joost venture. The project of Joost TV began in October, 2006 under the code name “The Venice Project;” Invitation-only beta testing began in December 2006; and the project was officially announced as “Joost” on January 16, 2007.
Joost TV is a P2PTV service, i.e. it uses distributes TV shows online using peer-to-peer TV technology created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. The P2P or Peer-to-Peer TV technology is the one, in which servers serve only a handful of clients; each of the clients in turn propagate the stream to more downstream clients and this goes on.
Joost TV uses software “Joost” or “Joost beta” to distribute TV programs online. Joost software is instrumental in Joost TV services. Joost TV software is available and can be downloaded by signing in the official site of Joost (joost.com), but Joost invitation is prerequisite to download Joost TV software. Currently, the software is in beta-testing stage. A Joost beta invite is required to join the Joost community. Joost invitation or Joost invite is an invitation from an existing Joost user; every Joost user automatically gets a certain number of Joost tokens to invite new people to join the service.
Unless there is a Joost invite or invitation, Joost TV software can’t be downloaded. Joost invites are easy to get. There are lots of Joost invites out there. The people already using Joost can be asked for an invite. There are lots of people talking about Joost online; these people can be contacted to get a Joost invite.
Once Joost TV software is downloaded, Joost TV service is available online. Joost TV offers popular TV shows, high-quality full-screen picture, hundreds of full-length shows, and easy channel-flipping.
